CIK-FIA KZ1-KZ2-KF2  EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP – WACKERSDORF (GERMANY), 6th-10th 06 2012

EUROPEAN TITLE AND SECOND PLACE IN KZ1 FOR CRG WITH JORRIT PEX WINNER AND DAVid_clanekE FORE’ RUNNER UP

JORRIT PEX IS THE EUROPEAN CHAMPION IN KZ1 AND DAVid_clanekE FORE’ IS THE RUNNER UP. THONON FIFTH AFTER A GOOD RECOVERY. IN KZ2 LENNOX  GETS INVOLVED IN SOME CONTACTS DURING THE RACE, AS WELL AS TIENE IN KF2. JOYNER IN KF2 GRABS A GOOD FOURTH PLACE IN RACE-1, BUT GOES OFF THE TRACK IN RACE-2.

Wackersdorf (Germany). The most sought after and hard fought title of the weekend in Wackersdorf, the title of the top category (KZ1), went to CRG thanks to theawesome performance of Jorrit Pex. Thanks to this success, the driver has added another prestigious title to the already rich list of international trophies of the Italian Factory. In Germany, the European title of the 19 year old Dutch driver was sealed by an excellent David_claneke Forè, who got onto the second step of the KZ1 podium completing CRG’s stunning ’hat trick’.

PEX AND FORE’ ON THE KZ1 PODIUM. The first and second place of Pex (CRG-Tm) and Forè (CRG-Maxter by Tec-Sav) arrived after Marco Ardigò’s disqualification. He had arrived first on the  finishing line but he immediately lost the leadership because of a 600 gram underweight.

Beyond this unpredictableending, both Jorrit Pex (who had led the race until there were only four laps to go) and David_clanek Forè fully deserved to be celebrated  after the race, because they had always been among the major protagonists of the event.

Jonathan Thonon fell short of the prestigious result. He dominated the first, very wet part of the pre-final until he went off the track for atechnical failure of the brakes. Then he recovered as far as the 12th placeand, in the final, he did_clanek an awesome recovery  and even achieved the fastest lap; despite all that he did_clanek not manage to finish in the first positions. Eventually, the four-time world champion Belgian driver had to be content with the fifth position. Always in KZ1, Fabian Federer, who dominated last year’s KZ2 European championship  right on this track, was slowed down first by the tailspin of one of his rivals then he went off thetrack in the central part of the race. The driver from Sudtirol, this time, had to be content with the 17th position.

IN KZ2 LENNOX INVOLVED IN CONTACTS DURING THE RACE. In KZ2 CRG counted on Jordon Lennox-Lamb for a good performance; he stood more than a chance to succeed thanks to the high speed achieved during the whole weekend. In the pre-final the English driver started from the second row, but after a break caused by the rain when he was occupying the sixth position, when the race started again he did_clanek not manage to remainwith the top drivers because of some contacts with his rivals. He finally placed 13th. In the Final, Lennox started well and in few laps he reached the fourth position; then he got bumped into and started having some troubles with one of the wheels. He slipped back as far as the ninth place, before the excellent Luca Tilloca running on a Kalì-Kart produced by CRG, who performed well and recovered really well after the 24th place of the heats. However, the way KZ2 ended is not completely satisfactory for Lennox, because the competitiveness of the CRG chassis and of the Maxter engine - directly prepared by the Italian factory - had given the the team good expecation for a better result. The final of the European Championship was won by the Lituan Simas Juodvirsis.

The other CRG private drivers who entered the final were the Dutch Chantal Van Haandel of CRG Holland (14th), the Italian Alessandro Fabiani (22nd) and the Austrian Marcel Muller, who was unfortunately forced to retire because of an accid_clanekent. Among the 21 CRG drivers of the KZ2 category, Giambo is the one who deserves a particular praise: he took part in the race with sportsmanlike spirit despite his stout built which prevents him from getting good results.

NOT MUCH GOOD LUCK FOR TIENE AND JOYNER IN KF2. In KF2 the unpredictable weatherconditions  on Sunday created severe troubles to the CRG official standard-bearer, Felice Tiene; under the rain of the first final he met several troubles in the setup of his chassis powered by Bmb by KVS. In the second final, then, he started from the 32nd position but he got immediately involved in an accid_clanekent at the start; he was eventually obliged to retire with four laps to go.

Better luck for the English champion Tom Joyner, with the LHRacing team, who arrived in fourth in the first final behind Leclerc, Verstappen and Krebs. In the second final Joyner went off of the track during the fifth lap, while occupying the fourth position. The second final was won by Max Verstappen.

Anyway, the two CRG drivers can redeem themselves in England, in Brandon, on 22nd July for the second and decisive round of the KF2 European championship.

THE INTERVIEWS

Euan Jeffery, CRG team manager: “With such unpredictable weather conditions here in Wackersdorf, the end of the week was really hard as well as it was hard to decid_claneke the most suitable technical solutions for each category. The conditions of the track changed continuously from wet to dry. Anyway, we are really happy for the results achieved in KZ1, with  Jorrit Pex European champion and David_claneke Forè runner-up. I’d say that the Pexes deservesuch a good result for their commitment to this sport. Thonon did_clanek really well in the final, but he wasted time trying to overtake some of his rivals. In KZ2, Lennox and several other CRG drivers went really fast throughout the week, as well as Christian Hostert and, in KF2, Ingrid_clanek Girard. But in the final phase, with the tough conditions of the track the situation got a bit complicated.Luke Varley, too, paid_clanek dear for this situation. In KF2 Joyner, on the otherhand, performed quite well thanks to a good result in Final-1, while Tiene, unfortunately, got involved in several accid_clanekents and did_clanek not manage to end in the top positions. In this category we think we can do much better in the last round in England.”

Jorrit Pex (KZ1): “Winning this European championship is a great satisfaction for me. I’m really very happy. I’ve started anothergood season with CRG. After the recent victory in the WSK Euro Series in Val d’Argenton, now we’ve got this success. It gives me lots of pleasure. It is the most wonderful day of my life and an awesome present for my 19th birthday which I celebrated just a week ago."

David_claneke Forè (KZ1): “I’m really happy, of course. But I really went close to something even better. We had been fast throughout the whole weekend and, fortunately, my final result was notmuch affected by the accid_clanekent I got involved in during one of the heats. Under the rain of the Pre-final I managed to conquer a good position and so I entered the final among those who could aim for victory. I struggled until the end for a good result. I want to say thank you to CRG because once again they put me in the best possible conditions to express myself at my top level. I’m also really happy for Pex’s result: he has been fast since the beginning of the season and this is a title he deserved. I want o say thank you to my mechanic Mansel, to my team manager  Euan and to Tec-Sav for the whole assistance. After the third place in Genk of last year’s World Cup and this second place in the European championship, I do hope to do even better in the World Cup of Sarno."
